ATTENTION STUDENTS ALL CLASSES ARE CANCELLED
PLEASE REPORT THE THE GYMNASIUM FOR AN EMERGENCY ASSEMBLY
Our story begins as
the students (the audience) are called into the gymnasium for an
emergency assembly by the group "Scare-Tactic!" who preach on tough
teenage issues such as, "Terrorists among US", "The
Cyberspace Pledge" and "Disability Contains Ability." The songs are
sure to have
the audience laughing, or quickly exiting, the theater. Warning: This
play is politically incorrect.
After the assembly, school is in session as a talented and diverse cast of students and faculty from
the 1950's through the 1990's enter junior high and discover that the problems
there are anything but juvenile! Meet (1957) Richie: a questioning youth, (1967)
Mary : Clueless and misinformed, (1977) Michelle: Inter-sexed and beginning to cross dress,
(1987) Tiffany : A Madonna wanna be and (1997) Sk8 a ambiguous and curious young man.
As each student's misinformation is leaked to the next, a series
of
unfortunate misunderstandings have our students panicking as one by one
they
are called to the principal's office. With UNCUT's cutting edge style
of theater, the play uses film as a vital part of the performance,
taking
the audience on an intimate journey without boundaries. As our students
get
tangled in difficult problems, mis-informational movies are presented
in the
nick of time to further confuse our misguided youths. Using nostalgic
scare
films from America's
past, the story bounces from stage to screen.
Writer/Director Mark A. Dahl notes, "Being closeted in a conservative
Christian family, what we learned about sex was close to nothing. I am
a preachers kid, was a Sunday School Teacher, worked for the
state as a high school assembly performer and did a one-year tour with
Up With
People! The stories in this play are
true, a collection of junior high memories from a ton of people. The
stories of
straight, gay, and intersexed make this a hyper ride from the 1950's
through
the 1990's. It's fun."
