THE MEDIA ARTS INITIATIVE:
Communication as the leading catalyst for social change
The Media Arts Initiative (MAI) is a multi-media communications focused educational organization advancing social change initiatives in developing countries. In a move to provide South African students and educators with a working knowledge of digital media in a narrative form we are partnering with the Rutgers Graduate School of Education (GSE)South Africa Initiative (SAI).

SAI is an interdisciplinary program working with business and educational institutions to further cross-national considerations of educational issues. Through this partnering it is our mission to empower our South African students with the skills and means to capture their voice and vision in order to cross geographical boundaries and share their lives, culture and knowledge with the world.

Each year MAI sends volunteer professional artists to work with development organizations, who have established environmental, public health and human rights programs. During their placements, the artists introduce media communication as an effective methodology for community empowerment and engagement, educating and inspiring people to participate actively in improving the environmental, health, and social conditions in their communities
